Engineer-architect Alizée, construction engineer Maxime and their two daughters, aged 4 and 7, live in Uccle. Three years ago, they moved into their new house, which Alizee designed herself. It is a fine example of her vision of building: sustainable, responsible and with respect for the world around. The young family bought a small, average working-class house. Architecturally, the building had little to say, and so they decided to deconstruct it to turn it into a new, more sustainable home.

"We chose timber frame construction with prefabricated elements, natural and local materials, and we paid attention to circular economy and thermal performance."

The result is a sober, timeless and warm home in which the family feels completely at home, and which is truly future-ready.

They put the furniture together with the idea of rationality, simplicity and sustainability. Totally in line with the house itself, both in terms of vision and looks.

"The light wooden frames match the exposed wooden structure of our house, while the galvanised steel elements match the interior finish. The beige doors match nicely with the clay finish, and the white tops reflect the painted walls.’ They used the online configuration tool to put together the furniture, and then also went round to check that they hadn't overlooked anything.

“The house is a perfect example of how aesthetics and functionality can go hand in hand with sustainability. “Our home is a dynamic space that evolves with us, and Kewlox cabinets fit right in,” concludes Alizée.

Alizée
Engineer-architect, Brussels

"We travel by bike, we consume little and responsibly, we have our own vegetable garden, we focus on recycling, ... For us, this is an obvious choice, which we try to extend into all areas of our daily lives. The expression ‘happy sobriety’ does suit us I think."

Choosing Kewlox fits perfectly with this philosophy of simplicity and sustainability. "I knew Kewlox from before, as a piece of furniture that passes from generation to generation here in Belgium. We didn't have one in the house ourselves before, but it seemed nice to start that tradition. So one day our daughters can take them to their homes." says Alizée.

"It was a bit of a gamble,’ says Alizée, ’but we are extremely happy with the result!"  Besides the larger furniture in the living room, Alizee and Maxime also installed smaller Kewlox pieces in the children's rooms.

"These smaller cabinets are ideal for our daughters to use on their own,’ says Alizée. "They are practical, easy to use and fit perfectly into their rooms."
